Privacy Policy
What we collect, why we collect it, who helps us process it, and the rights you have over it.
Last updated 10 October 2026
Your work stays on your device unless you choose otherwise. Everything you write in FilmMakerStudio — scripts, breakdowns, schedules, budgets, contacts and notes — is saved in your own browser first. It reaches our servers only if you sign in and use cloud sync, and it reaches Google Drive only if you connect Drive.
We never sell your personal data, we do not show advertising, and we do not use your scripts or projects to train AI models.
1. Who we are
FilmMakerStudio (“we”, “us”) is an online set of tools for filmmakers, provided from India by an individual, Arun Kumar Mohanan, as a sole proprietor; FilmMakerStudio is a trading name, not a registered company. For the purposes of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (“DPDP Act”), we are the Data Fiduciary for the personal data described in this policy. You can reach us at support@filmmakerstudio.in.
2. What we collect
When you use the studio without signing in
Your projects and preferences are stored in your browser on your device. We do not receive them. If you enter with an invite code, the code is remembered in your browser so you do not have to type it again.
When you sign in with Google
- Account details — your name and e-mail address as provided by Google, and an internal account identifier. We never see your Google password.
- Synced project data — the projects you choose to sync, along with comments, share links and collaborator lists you create.
- Invite and membership records — any invite request you send (including the optional note you write and the type of browser you sent it from), and whether it was approved.
- Session records — which device currently holds your active session, so that your account is used on one device at a time.
When you buy a plan
Payments are processed by Razorpay. Your card, UPI, net-banking or wallet details are entered with Razorpay and never reach us. We receive and keep the order and payment identifiers, the plan, the amount, the date, and the payment status (for example, captured or refunded), so that we can activate your plan and keep proper accounting records.
When you use AI features
AI tools work only with an API key that you supply for Anthropic or Google Gemini. The key is stored in your browser on your device, is never included in backups or cloud sync, and is never sent to us. When you run an AI tool, the text it shows you it will send goes directly from your browser to that provider and is handled under the provider’s own terms and privacy policy.
Technical data
Like any website, our hosting provider receives your IP address and basic request information (such as browser type and the page requested) when you load a page, and may keep it in short-lived server logs for security and reliability. We do not run analytics, advertising trackers or session recording.
Launch-offer e-mails and visit counts
If you type your e-mail into the “Get launch offers” form on our start page and tick the consent box, we store that address, the exact consent sentence you saw, and the date. We use it only to write to you about FilmMakerStudio’s launch and offers; you can ask us to delete it at any time at support@filmmakerstudio.in. Only an administrator can read the list, and it is not shared. Separately, we count visits to the start page, the pricing section, invite requests, sign-ups and purchases as plain daily totals, with no identifier, IP address or cookie attached, so a count cannot be traced to you. We honour Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control, and the start page has a “Don’t count this visit” button.
3. Why we use it
- To provide the service you asked for: signing you in, syncing and sharing your projects, and backing them up.
- To run the invite-only membership: reviewing invite requests and admitting members.
- To activate the plan you bought, keep payment records required by law, and handle refunds.
- To keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and enforce our Terms of Service.
- To contact you about your account, a purchase or an important change to the service. We do not send marketing e-mail without your consent.
We process your personal data on the basis of the consent you give when you sign in, sync, connect a service or make a purchase, and for the legitimate uses the DPDP Act permits, such as complying with law.
4. Who processes it for us
We use a small number of trusted service providers (Data Processors), each only for the purpose listed:
- Supabase — sign-in, the database that holds synced projects, comments, sharing and account records.
- Google — Google sign-in; Google Drive, only if you connect it; Google Fonts, which serves the typefaces on our pages and so receives your IP address.
- Razorpay — payment processing, invoices and refunds.
- YouTube (Google) — only if you press play on one of the
explainer videos. Nothing is loaded from YouTube before that: the player then loads from
youtube-nocookie.com, which receives your IP address and may store data in your browser under Google’s privacy policy. - Vercel and/or Netlify — website hosting and delivery.
- Anthropic or Google (Gemini) — only when you run an AI tool with your own key; you have the direct relationship with that provider.
Some of these providers store or process data outside India. Where they do, they process it on our instructions and under their own security commitments. We share personal data with authorities only when the law requires us to.
5. Google Drive backup
If you connect Google Drive, we request the drive.file permission, which
lets the studio see only the files it created. It cannot read anything else in your Drive.
The studio writes a single backup file that you can open, download or delete at any time,
and disconnecting never deletes it. You can remove the studio’s access from your
Google account permissions page.
6. Cookies and browser storage
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. The studio uses your browser’s local storage to save your work and preferences on your device, and session storage for things that should last only until you close the tab. Our sign-in provider stores a session in your browser so that you stay signed in. If you play an explainer video, YouTube’s player may store its own data in your browser; it is not loaded until you press play. Clearing your browser’s site data removes all of this from that device — including any work you have not backed up.
7. How long we keep it
- Account and synced project data — for as long as your account is active. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete it and your synced data within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep something longer.
- Payment records — for as long as Indian tax and accounting law requires (generally up to eight years).
- Invite requests — until they are decided and for a reasonable period afterwards, so that repeat requests can be handled fairly.
- Server logs — for a short period set by our hosting provider.
- Data on your device — until you delete it; it is under your control, not ours.
8. Your rights
Under the DPDP Act you have the right to:
- get a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how we use it;
- have inaccurate or incomplete data corrected and updated;
- have your data erased when it is no longer needed, or withdraw your consent (withdrawal does not affect anything done before it, and may mean we can no longer provide cloud features);
- have your grievances addressed by us; and
- nominate another person to exercise these rights on your behalf if you die or become incapacitated.
To use any of these rights, e-mail support@filmmakerstudio.in from the address on your account. We will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
9. Security
Data in transit is encrypted with HTTPS. Access to synced data is restricted so that only you and the people you share a project with can reach it. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affecting your personal data occurs, we will notify you and the Data Protection Board as the law requires.
10. Children
FilmMakerStudio is meant for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or make a purchase. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children; if you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows the latest version. If a change is significant, we will let signed-in members know in the app or by e-mail before it takes effect.
12. Contact and grievances
